Public Services
The Department of Public Service (DPS) combines under one umbrella many divisions that provide direct service to residents. This enables a coordinated effort in maintaining the City's infrastructure, planning for special events and addressing emergencies such as water main breaks or severe weather conditions. The Department's success is attributable to a well trained and dedicated work force.
  1. Electrical

    The Electrical Division is responsible for all traffic signals installed on City of Royal Oak maintained roadways.

  2. Farmers Market

    The Royal Oak Farmers Market provides one of the premium farm market venues in southeast Michigan.

  3. Highway

    The Highway Division is responsible for a variety of operations related to street maintenance, such as signs, guardrails, and painting.

  5. Motor Pool

    The Motor Pool assists all Royal Oak departments with delivery of services to residents and businesses through the use of safe and reliable equipment, such as police cars, small and large trucks, fire apparatus, tractors, road sweepers, aerial equipment, etc.

  6. Parks & Forestry

    The Parks and Forestry Division is responsible for maintenance of over 23,000 street trees, 50 park sites, and numerous other public grounds and facilities.

  9. Refuse

    Refuse, recycling and yard waste collection is performed by an outside contractor, Rizzo Services, and is administered through the Director of Public Service's Office.

  10. Senior \ Community Center

    The City of Royal Oak offers two beautiful community centers where mature adults aged 50 and better can enjoy opportunities for lifelong education, fitness, nutrition and leisure activities.

  11. Sewer

    The Sewer Division is responsible for the maintenance of approximately 300 miles of sewers (sanitary and storm) throughout the Community.

  12. Water Maintenance

    The Water Maintenance Division has two basic duties: one is to provide a clean, constant supply of water to home and businesses, the other is to provide a high-pressure supply of water for fire protection.

  13. Water Service

    The Water Service Division has three employees and one supervisor, who oversees the Water Service, Water Maintenance and Sewer Divisions. There are approximately 23,500 water meters for which the Division is responsible.
