Construction Project Updates


Residents on affected streets were mailed construction notices in the Spring with detailed information on the project.

The city realizes construction will be an inconvenience and all efforts to expedite the work will be utilized to minimize traffic conflicts and access to various properties abutting the project. If you have questions you can contact the Engineering Division at 248.246.3260.

CAP1908/09 14 Mile Road Resurfacing Improvements

Greenfield Road to Crooks Road

The city's contractor will continue restoration and punch list items.

CAP1935 Road Reconstruction Improvements

Contractor: FDM Contracting Inc.


The week of August 19th, the contractor will be grading and preparing Benjamin Ave for new pavement where the new sewer mains were just installed. Pavement removals will continue on the east side of Benjamin Ave and under the railroad bridge.

On W Houstonia Ave, the contractor will begin work on the south side of the roadway, working on new curbing and driveway approaches.

New ADA sidewalk ramps will be installed at the intersection of Nakota Road and Massoit Road.

Restoration work will also begin on Fernlee Ave, Nakota Road, and Massoit Road.

Any property owners' driveway access that will be affected will receive a door hanger notice at least 24 hours in advance.

CAP1905 Concrete Pavement Repairs

Contractor: Galui Construction Inc.


The week of August 19th, the contractor plans to continue working on the project streets north of 14 Mile Road. Once complete, they will return to the remaining project streets south of 14 Mile Road.

CAP1915 Asphalt Resurfacing

Contractor: AJAX Paving Industries Inc


Restoration work will continue the week of August 19th. The contractor also plans to place a rejuvenating agent on the newly resurfaced streets in the beginning of the week. "No Parking" signs will be placed in advance so that no vehicles are on the street when crews perform the work.

CAP1910 Water Main Improvements

Contractor: FDM Contracting Inc.


The week of August 19th, the contractor will connect the new water main on Normandy at Hampton, Mandalay and Coolidge. Any property owners affected by the water shut-off will receive a door hanger notice the day beforehand.

The contractor also plans to continue restoration on Albert Ave, Rockingham Rd and Judson Ave.

Once water main installation is complete on Normandy Road, the contractor will begin work on S. Blair Ave next.

CAP1907 Normandy Road Improvements

Greenfield Road to Woodward Avenue
Contractor: AJAX Paving Industries


The city will be resurfacing Normandy Road from Greenfield Road to Woodward Avenue this fall. The city opted to add this project for 2019 due to the availability of funding for major road improvements.

Work is scheduled to begin the week of August 19th.

The constructions operations will close Normandy Road to thru traffic. Residents with driveways on Normandy Road will be allowed access from their nearest side street, all other traffic will be prohibited.

Reminder: Segment 3 of the I-75 modernization project in Oakland County begins Sunday, Aug. 11

Starting at 3 p.m. Aug. 11, the right lane of southbound I-75 will be closed from 13 Mile to 8 Mile roads in order for crews to widen the shoulder for an eventual traffic shift. In addition to the single-lane closure, crews will close the following ramps:
  • Westbound I-696 ramp to southbound I-75,
  • Southbound I-75 exit to 8 Mile Road,
  • Southbound I-75 exit to 9 Mile Road,
  • 9 Mile Road entrance ramp to southbound I-75

MDOT closing Maple Road under I-75 this weekend for bridge demolition in Oakland County

MDOT contracting crews will be closing both directions of Maple Road under I-75 for bridge demolition starting at 10 p.m. Friday, Aug. 9. The closure is needed for demolishing the northbound I-75 freeway bridge over Maple Road.

Please note that construction schedules are tentative, and may change based on weather delays, subcontractors or substantial field modifications. These updates are based on the information currently available.
