2020 Engineering Division Construction Projects


Use the map above to see if a project is affecting your street. The city realizes construction will be an inconvenience and all efforts to expedite the work will be utilized to minimize traffic conflicts and access to various properties abutting the project. CAP1909 MDOT 14 Mile Road Resurfacing

Contractor: Florence Cement Company


The north half of 14 Mile Road is currently closed for the second phase of construction with traffic shifted to the south side of the roadway. One travel lane is open in each direction. Left turns are prohibited at several side streets along the corridor.


The week of July 20th, the contractor plans to work on clean up and back-filling behind the new curbing and conditioning the already placed HMA pavement. The contractor has also tentatively planned the first layer of asphalt for later this week, weather permitting.

CAP2005 Concrete Street Repairs

Contractor: Italia Construction, Inc.


The contractor will be going south to north on the various project streets, working on several streets at once. They will be working on one side of the street at a time to maintain access throughout construction. Signs stating 'No Parking 7am - 8pm' will be placed by the contractor as necessary.

Work is finishing up on the streets south of 12 Mile Road. The contractor will continue on the project streets between 12 and 13 Mile, working east to west. The contractor is cutting out specified bad sections of road pavement and restoring with new concrete, working on one side of the street at a time.

CAP2010 Water Main Improvements

Contractor: FDM Contracting, Inc.


The city's contractor has been authorized to use the northeast section of VFW Park for construction staging and material storage. The area will be fenced off for public safety. Vehicles will enter/exit using Campbell Road and Sixth Street. Once the project is complete, the disturbed areas will be re-graded and restored with topsoil and seed. The contractor will also make some park improvements by planting new trees and installing new picnic tables.

Fifth Street - The week of July 20th, the contractor plans to schedule the final water main connection for mid-week, at Fifth and Alexander. Affected residents will be notified via door hanger the day beforehand with the duration of the shut off. The contractor also plans to begin pouring new curbing this week between Knowles and and Kayser, followed by driveway approaches.

S. Rembrandt Avenue - The contractor will continue addressing individual services that are lead or galvanized and finish transferring water services within the alley. Once complete the final connections will be scheduled.

Seventh Street - The contractor will begin grading the disturbed areas in preparation for new curbing and driveway approaches.

S. Altadena Avenue - This week the contractor will continue transferring individual water services to the main. Residents will receive a knock on the door to inform them before their service is transferred to the new main. Typically this is a short operation and the water will be turned off for only 20-30 minutes. The contractor will also be addressing water services that are lead or galvanized.

S. Vermont Avenue - The final water main connection is scheduled for Tuesday. Residents who will be affected by the shut-off were notified today via door hanger. Once the connection is complete the contractor will begin transferring individual water services to the new main and addressing lead or galvanized services.

Helene Avenue - The final water main connection if being performed today. Once complete the contractor will begin working on pavement restoration.

Longfellow Avenue - Water main installation continues this week.

The week of July 20th, the contractor will continue working on landscape restoration.

CAP2015 Asphalt Resurfacing Improvements

Contractor: AJAX Paving Industries


Phase 1 Streets - The contractor is continuing clean up and landscape restoration the week of July 20th.

The northeast corner of Sunset Boulevard and Woodsboro Drive will be restored likely the end of this week or early next week.

Phase 2 Streets –  Work is expected to begin mid-week, beginning with driveway and curb removal on the west side of Linwood. Residents will be notified the day beforehand, via door hanger, if they will lose access to their driveway. Once complete the contractor will move to Woodland and then Ferncliff.

NOTE: In case of extreme high temperatures, the city will allow the contractor to begin pouring new concrete at 6:00 a.m. instead of 7:00 a.m. If this happens, residents of the block will receive a notice the day beforehand via door hanger. Concrete removal operations would still not be allowed to begin until 7:00 a.m.

CAP2009 Lincoln Avenue Resurfacing

Contractor: Asphalt Specialists, Inc


The contractor placed the final layer of pavement today. Continuing this week, the contractor will be working on landscape restoration and will schedule the final pavement striping.

CAP2035 Road Reconstruction Improvements

Contractor: Mark Anthony Contracting, Inc


Knowles Street - The contractor plans to continue setting permeable paver stones the week of July 20th. They will then begin forming up the new sidewalk and driveway approaches.

Chester Road - The contractor plans to pour the new roadway on Tuesday. Once complete it will remain closed for 7-10 days while the concrete cures.

Delaware Avenue - The contractor plans to work on forming the new sidewalks, later in the week.


Hillside Drive - The contractor plans to pour the new roadway on Wednesday. Once complete it will remain closed for 7-10 days while the concrete cures.

Traffic Signal Improvements

Contractor: Dan's Excavating


The contractor will be working on foundations this week at the 11 Mile Road & Main Street intersection and the 11 Mile Road & Center Street intersection. They currently expect to be finished on 11 Mile Road signal foundations within two weeks. Once complete, they will begin work on the 13 Mile Road corridor.
