Please note, meeting agendas are often revised at the last minute, so please recheck the agenda prior to the meeting for any changes.

Lockman Park Sign

Notice of Construction at Lockman Park

The City of Royal Oak's contractor (Rolar Property Services) will implement vast improvements to the north side of Lockman Park over the next several months. These include: a new playfield, tennis court, basketball court, fitness course, walking path, benches, tables, trees, and landscaping!

Site work will begin at the beginning of May 2024. The north side of the park will be closed during construction for safety purposes. Please do not enter the construction area or disrupt the contractor. It is anticipated that the project will be completed in the late fall of 2024.

The scope of the project will be limited to the park. During construction, there may be intermittent parking restrictions to allow for construction equipment to gain access to the park. If needed, “No Parking - Tow Away Zone 7:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m.” signs will be posted in advance to allow for various construction operations.

There will be no change in the trash pick-up dates and the trash will be taken care of as usual during the construction operations unless otherwise notified by the city.

Questions during the construction may directed to Habib Haidar (248-378-5509) at Fleis & VandenBrink Engineers. Mr. Haidar will conduct construction inspection services on behalf of the city.

Stamp Out Hunger

Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive is This Saturday

Each year, letter carriers across the country head out on their routes on the second Saturday in May to collect donations of non-perishable food items to benefit local food pantries. Since launching in 1993, the National Association of Letter Carriers’ annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive has grown into the nation’s largest one-day food drive, helping to fill the shelves of food banks in cities and towns throughout the United States.

Royal Oak residents are invited to leave a donation of non-perishable food in a bag near your mailbox this Saturday, May 11. Your letter carrier will do the rest.

After a small hiatus, members of the Royal Oak Police & Fire Departments have decided to once again team up to play the Detroit Red Wings Alumni. All proceeds benefit the Love, Team Tessa foundation and their fight to end childhood neuroblastoma cancer. Hope to see you there.

No Mow May for the Bees

No Mow May is Here!

The Royal Oak City Commission approved a resolution for No Mow May, allowing residents to give their lawns a break and encourage local biodiversity.

No code enforcement notices for overgrown lawns will be issued during the month of May. Participation in No Mow May is completely VOLUNTARY.

If you're interested, you can pick up a special lawn sign at City Hall for just $5. The signs are weather-resistant and can be used year after year. You can find them at the Treasurer's Office on the first floor of City Hall, 203 S Troy St.

Explaining your landscaping choices to neighbors and passersby helps them see that not mowing isn't neglect, but a deliberate effort to create wildlife habitat.

While posting signs is an effective way to educate others about the benefits of less mowing for bees and other pollinators, PLEASE NOTE, that you DO NOT need to purchase a sign to participate.
