ATTENTION Drop Box Users!

Due to Taco Fest street closures and other factors, the drop boxes near City Hall will be inaccessible for tax and water bill payments through Sunday, July 7. Please wait until Monday, July 8, to use the drop boxes near City Hall.

Fourth of July Holiday: What's open? What closed?

  • Thursday, July 4: All City of Royal Oak facilities will be closed on Thursday, July 4 in observance of the Independence Day holiday. Normal police and fire services will be provided. 
  • Friday, July 5: City Hall is closed to the public. There will not be a Farm Fresh Friday at the Royal Oak Farmers Market. All other facilities, including the library, are open on July 5. 
  • Saturday, July 6: The Royal Oak Farmers Market (7 a.m. to 1 p.m.) and the Royal Oak Public Library (9 a.m. - 6 p.m.) are open.
  • Sunday, July 7: The Royal Oak Farmers Market is open for the Sunday Antique Market from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Curbside recycling and trash pickup is delayed one day for those residents whose pick up day is Thursday, July 4 and Friday, July 5.

Downtown Parking

Taco Fest Parking in Downtown Royal Oak varies July 4 through July 7. Please visit the Taco Fest website to explore all your options.

Road Closures

Additionally, please be aware of the following street and parking lot closures related to Royal Oak Taco Fest:

  • July 2 at 6 a.m.: Farmers Market WEST lot closes.
  • July 2 at 6 p.m.: Street closures begin around the Civic Center area, making the 11 Mile Road entrance the ONLY entrance into the Farmers Market/Police EAST lot, City Hall EAST, and SOUTH lots.
  • July 3 at 6 a.m.: City Hall SOUTH lot closes.
  • July 4 to July 7 at 10 a.m.: Many lots near the Taco Fest footprint (see bottom of this email) become PAID parking. 
  • July 8 at 6 a.m.: All roads and parking lots reopen
Compost Dropoff New Location

Royal Oak Sustainability will be at the Farmers Market on Saturday, July 6, collecting food scraps from 7 a.m. until 1 p.m. Due to Taco Fest, their booth will be located right in the middle of the market where Gracias Greenhouse is typically located. Bins will be outside, and volunteers will assist you with your drop-off.  The parking lot in front of their booth will be closed, and the entrance closest to the police station should be used. Questions can be directed to sustainability@romi.gov.

Taco Fest

Kick off the summer in downtown Royal Oak with tacos, cerveza, and tequila!

From July 4 to July 7, the Royal Oak Taco Fest will host over 50 taquerias and eateries offering delicious treats to satisfy any taco lover.

The festival has something for everyone, including a Free Kids Zone with bounce houses, a splash pad, face painting, and much more!
