Winter REadiness Guide

Wintry weather contnues this weekend with temperatures staying cold and slick conditions that could make travel and walkways tricky.

That’s exactly why our  Winter Readiness Guide matters right now. It’s got essential info on:

  • Snowplow routes & parking rules
  •  Snow emergencies
  • On-street parking do’s & don’ts
  • Winter safety & more

Printed copies will be available at City Hall starting Monday — grab one on your way in. Or read the full guide online.

Leaf collection

Leaf Collection Is ending soon. Now’s the time to make a plan for your remaining leaves!

IMPORTANT: After December 19, leaves and yard waste will not be collected curbside or on your regular refuse day.

Here are your options:

  • Hold onto your leaves/yard waste until collection resumes April 6, 2026
  • Take a limited number of bags to SOCRRA between Dec. 22, 2025 – Mar. 30, 2026
  • Or simply leave the remaining leaves in your yard until spring — it’s actually great for soil and pollinators

PLEASE DO NOT rake or blow leaves into the street once the crews have made a SECOND pass through your neighborhood. They clog catch basins, create slippery conditions, and make a giant wet mess no one enjoys.

Every attempt will be made to complete a third pickup, but that’s entirely weather-dependent. Michigan likes to keep us humble. It’s best to plan as if there won’t be a third pass — and then be pleasantly surprised if the weather gives us a lucky break.

New Parking System

Installation has begun!

As the City of Royal Oak nears the launch of its new parking system, visitors will see increased activity downtown as new parking meters and signage are installed. Work will continue through December in preparation for the new system—featuring the ParkMobile app and Flowbird meters—to go live on January 1.
