New Park Area

New Downtown Park Visual Preference Survey Date

As a continuation of the community engagement process for the downtown park, registration is now open for the Visual Preference Survey on Nov. 3. There are two sessions; 9:00 AM and 11:00 AM.

The Visual Preference Survey is a public engagement session that allows people to view imagery and identify their preferences on a wide range of park design features and amenities. Park planners, landscape architects, engineers, city staff and commissioners are asking residents to express their opinions about the park, so we can all learn what it can look like and feel like.

This workshop is unique.

The Nov. 3 Visual Preference Survey is not the same as the survey that was completed this past Saturday, Oct. 6. If you missed the survey this past Saturday, that is okay. Your participation on Nov. 3 is welcomed and needed.
To register for this event, please go to www.romi.gov/rsvp. Registration is now open.
We look forward to seeing you on Nov. 3!
Ruck 22 March Logo

Ruck 22 5K March to Benefit Veterans

Join the cities of Ferndale, Hazel Park and Royal Oak for a 5K ruck march through the three communities.

A ruck march involves walking at a fast clip with a weighted backpack or ruck. In the Armed Forces, participants carry at least 45 pounds in their rucks.

For this event, we are asking participants to carry at least 22 pounds or 22 items.

WHY 22?

On average, 22 veterans commit suicide in the United States.
By carrying at least 22 pounds of food or 22 personal items, we show our support for our veterans.
If we all carry the burden, no one has to do it alone.

Entry fee is $22 for adults and includes a t-shirt
Entry fee is FREE (does not include T-shirt) for active and retired military and children 10 or $5 with a T-shirt. (Please note shirts are only available in adult sizes).
T-shirts will have the event logo on the front; the number 22 is on the back. You can add your city's name -- Ferndale, Hazel Park or Royal Oak -- if you chose.

ALL monies from entry fees will be donated to the Michigan WWII Legacy Memorial. Food and other items will go to Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 154.

  • You are in jail, awaiting arraignment or trial

  • You are unable to attend the polls because of religious beliefs
If any of these situations exist, you can obtain an absent voter ballot by writing to the Clerk. You must state the reason why you need an absent voter ballot, and you must sign the request.

A pre-printed absent voter ballot application form is available above or from the City Clerk upon request.

Request a Ballot
A separate absent voter ballot request must be submitted for each election. Download an Absentee Voter Ballot Request Form, fill it out and mail it to the City Clerk at:

Royal Oak City Clerk
211 South Williams Street
Royal Oak, MI 48067

If you want the ballot mailed, your application must be received by 2 p.m. the Saturday before the election. Make your request early to allow for delivery time.

Voters Outside of the US
If you are temporarily outside the US, you can use a Federal Postcard Application to apply for an absent voter ballot. The FPCA must be signed under oath unless you, your spouse or your parents are serving in the armed forces or Merchant Marines.

Casting Your Absentee Ballot
A voter eligible to vote by absent voter ballot may mail their completed ballot. You may also vote in person at the Clerk’s Office anytime up to 4 p.m. the day before the election. All absent voter ballots must be received by the Clerk’s Office not later than 8 p.m. on election day.

Bike Lanes

What Drivers Should Know About Bike Lanes

Here are three things drivers should know about bike lanes:

1. Only people riding bicycles may travel in a bike lane.
2. Where bike lane lines are dashed, drivers may cross over the bike lane.
3. Green paint indicates a potential point of conflict between auto and bicycle traffic. Drivers must yield to bicyclists until they have cleared this zone.

The above photo shows how a typical intersection on Main Street will be marked.
