Digital Imaging and Audio Lab (DIAL)

The DIAL is located within and is part of the Royal Oak Public Library Makerspace.

Patrons can make a reservation to use the equipment to digitize old formats such as VHS, audio cassettes, 8mm/super 8mm film, negatives, slides, and Vinyl.

Digitization is done by the patron (though staff is available for questions and troubleshooting).

Monday – Thursday:  10 AM - 7 PM
Friday – Saturday: 10 AM – 5 PM
Sunday:  Closed

DIAL Guidelines:

  • Reservations are required to use all DIAL equipment (reservations can be made for up to two weeks in advance).
  • DIAL appointments must end 10 minutes before the library closes.
  • Digitization takes place in real time (i.e. if you have 1 hour of material to digitize, plan on making an appointment for at least 1 hour or longer).
  • Appointments can be made for up to 4 hours. 
  • A minimum of three (3) days is required before a reservation can be booked.
  • The library does not provide digital storage devices. Please bring the appropriate digital storage device to your appointment.
  • The Royal Oak Public Library is not responsible for any damage to materials, equipment, or conversion errors. Patrons are responsible for DIAL equipment during an appointment.
  • The Royal Oak Public Library is not liable for any copyright infringement. Each visitor assumes all responsibility for observing copyright restrictions and other laws while using equipment. 
  • No food or drink is allowed near the equipment.
  • Reservations can only be booked by patrons 18 years of age and up.
