Road Performance Dashboard
Each fall, the Engineering Division drives all of the local roads in the city to assign a PASER rating. Oakland County officials are responsible for rating the major roads in Royal Oak.
What is PASER?
The Pavement Surface Evaluation and Rating (PASER) system is used to rate the roads in Royal Oak. Michigan’s Transportation Asset Management Council (TAMC) adopted the system for its state-wide assessment of pavement conditions, and all local agencies are required to use this system to rate roads systematically.
The PASER rating methodology is a visual inspection method, based on engineering principles, for evaluating the condition of pavement surfaces in a time efficient and consistent manner. PASER data provides an understanding of the pavement condition, allows for predicting the future pavement condition, and provides a useful tool for road improvement scheduling. Additionally, PASER ratings also provide an understandable way to communicate pavement condition to elected officials and the public.
The PASER system ranks roads on a scale of 1 to 10, with a 10 corresponding to new construction, and 1 being a failing condition. The following table summarizes the ranking system.
